Before and After Projects

Will She Like Wanda’s Idea?

Siblings. Do you have any?  I do.  In fact, I come from a pretty decent size family.  Growing up with two brothers and a sister, we were all very different.  Sometimes you have to wonder how we could be so different being raised by the same parents, in the same house for a big part of our lives.  Sure, we might have shared a couple qualities among one another, but overall we were each our own person with our own personalities, our own strengths, our own weaknesses.

Wanda, also comes from a large family.  A family with 7 children.  4 boys. 3 girls. And again each with their own personalities.  Each with something they do really well and that makes them stand out in the family.  If you follow this blog or facebook or have been into the shop, you know first hand a talent Wanda is pretty amazing at, and that is creating awesome pieces of furniture.  She has a vision for creating one of a kind pieces or pieces we might consider ready for the garbage.  We might see something that is broken, but Wanda sees something that just needs a new purpose, a new life.  So, with that being said, Wanda wanted to put her creativity and talents to use and create something for her sister Barb.  Before we move on though, let me introduce you to Barb.

Image

This Barb on the left and Wanda on the right.  You can definitely tell they are sisters. They may have different personalities, but what they lack in that area, they definitely make up for in appearance.

Before

These tables already belonged to Barb, but they needed a new look to them.  The only catch, Barb really didn’t get a say in what Wanda would get to do to them.  Barb had to trust that her little sister would know her well enough, to give these tables a makeover that would make Barb happy in the end.  That is one advantage of being a sisters.  Who knows you better than you might just know yourself?!?!?  Right! 🙂

So, Wanda got busy thinking on just what she would do to these tables.  I have to say, I am not sorry to see these tables get a makeover.  I do really like the shapes of the tables, but the wood, eh not as much.  I definitely couldn’t wait to see what Wanda had planned for these tables.

This is the finished coffee table painted with a burgundy color on the bottom and gray over the top then distressed to bring out the red.  She added a stencil to the top in French. Makes me wish I had taken French in school so I knew more than just the word “Paris”.  🙂

We can’t forget the end table.  I love the silver hardware added to the drawer.  It gives this end table a gorgeous new look.  I would definitely give it my seal of approval and chalk it up to another Wanda success, but the real test is if it is a success with Barb or not.  Does Wanda really know what her sister would like when it comes to refinishing her furniture?

Absolutely she does.  Barb loved the tables and was definitely happy she let Wanda surprise her with a new look for her tables.  They fit perfectly in her home.

Giving back to the community

Giving Back To The Community

Do you ever wonder how you can help your community and support local organizations?  Maybe you give back by volunteering at your child’s school,  Or perhaps you donate blood at a local blood bank or blood drive going on from time to time.  Or maybe you contribute to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  Or sponsor a child on the other side of the world.  Or maybe you teach Sunday School at your church.  Or volunteer your time delivering meals to the elderly.  There are so many ways to give back to our community and these are just a few examples of what so many do.

I’ve talked before on this blog and on Facebook about how supportive Wanda is of our local community.  It’s one of the many things I love about working for such a great person who fully embraces the idea of giving back to the community.  This time the organization who is to receive the kindness and generosity is The Children’s Museum of Illinois.  Wanda had a pair of stunning side tables come in, and she enlisted the help and creativity of Beki VanMeter from Paint Junkies, to come up with a design and to give one of the tables a completely new look.  Check out the before photo below.

Image

It’s a beautifully designed piece just in the before photo.  I love the shape of the table top and the details in the base of the table.  But as with most things that come into the warehouse, it was about to get a face lift!  🙂

Image

Wanda had this knob (pictured above) and she wanted to use it for the table.  So, she showed Beki the knob for inspiration and let her get to work. Beki, of course had some great ideas for this table and oh how she gave it a fabulous new look that ties in this knob perfectly.

So are you ready to see the after?  Yeah.  Me too.  You know I didn’t even get any inside details or any sneak peeks of this table until it was done.  That’s right, they kept this little gem under wraps.  I only was able to see the before of the table.

Image

So what do you think?  Isn’t it gorgeous?  I have to admit it was well worth the wait and not being allowed any little peeks or hints about what was going on.  I love the silver on the table and the top that Beki created for it is Aaaaaaa-mazing!  I promise you this photo doesn’t even do this table justice!  So, perhaps you should go see this table in person.  It is on display until the end of September at the Children’s Museum.

By now you might be wondering, how is this table giving back to the community?  And how will this table benefit the Children’s Museum?   Well, let me tell you!  The Perfect Pair has donated this table to be raffled off to one very lucky person.  What?!?! You could win this table!  Oh yes, I definitely said you could W-I-N this lovely table.  What do you have to do to win you ask?  Buy a raffle ticket.  That’s right.  100% of the proceeds raised will go to the Children’s Museum.  Yes, 100% of the proceeds. Not 50/50, not 20%, but all of the money raised will go to the Children’s Museum to support their programs.  You can purchase your raffle tickets at The Children’s Museum and they are 1 ticket for $5.00 or 5 tickets for $20.00.  Not only will you be supporting an amazing organization in our community, this stunning one of a kind table could end up in your home. What an incredible way to support the community!

The Children’s Museum of Illinois is located at:  55 South Country Club Rd. – Decatur, IL 62521 (Call or check out their website for hours they are open).

“Wine” Yes I Think I Will…

have a glass!  Wine glass holder that is!  I know my last post covered the Pinterest Inspired Windows class Wanda & Beki hosted a couple weeks ago.  They even hosted a second Pinterest Inspired Windows class last night, since the first one was quite popular and filled up quickly.  I even posted a photo of the wine glass holder that Wanda made, but I wanted to elaborate on that post a bit more.   Also, I wanted to show the before photo of the window.

Image

So here it is!  I don’t know about you, but I would have never given that window a second look if I walked by it or if I would have looked twice,  it would have been a thought of, well I know what’s going in my trash can to be taken to the local dump.  I definitely wouldn’t have thought, “oh, that will make a perfect hanging wine glass rack”.  Ah, but leave it to Wanda to see the potential of this window.  Can we say from “Trash to Treasure”, and I do mean treasure!

Image

Doesn’t she have such vision!  I love that she left the window a bit distressed, which I think gives it that old feel, leaving it’s character intact, and it lets you know this window has not only a history, but a story, as well.  Though, no longer used for a window to look out from, it has been given a second life.  A new story to tell, a new place to hang in someone’s home.  It could have been left in an old barn or shed to gather more dust or to even been thrown out, but now it serves a new purpose for a new home.

Image

My favorite part of this window, is the design Wanda created on the glass.  It has a “timeless” feel to it, which I think fits perfectly with this piece. Something old, turned into something completely new.  Even,  if you are not one to indulge in a glass of wine from time to time, we should all indulge in a glass of juice in a fancy wine glass on occasion.  If you are like me, who loves this piece and would like to create one that fits your home decor, but have no idea how to get from point A to point B in designing your own wine glass rack, the great thing is that Wanda can teach you just how to make your very own!  You can purchase one of the windows we have in our warehouse or bring one you have already from home and the wine glass holder rods and sign up for one of her upcoming windows classes.  I know whatever you create it will be something you are proud to show off to family and friends.

Something Old, Turned Into Something New…

If you were given this old antique wheel chair and told to create something new with it, what would you do with it?

Image

Well have no worries, because at The Perfect Pair, we can always come up with some new idea for almost any piece we encounter.  So Wanda and Donna got to work on coming up with a new use for the wheel chair.  First, they started with deciding on a new color for the chair.  Yep. Yellow.  Bright and colorful.  Perfect! Then, they decided to add some peg board to the back of the chair and some hooks to hand some gardening tools from.  Perfect! Then, they decided to cut a hole in the “leg” part of the chair.  Added a small waste basket for small debris removal.  Perfect! Gardening gloves, watering can, flower pots, etc. and you have the perfect way to tinker around your garden with your new garden cart all at your finger tips.  Perfect!

Image

Now that is a one of a kind piece your neighbors probably won’t have to do their gardening with!  🙂  Stop in and check out this garden cart and who knows it might just be the “Perfect” piece for you! Unless your neighbor snatches up this piece before you do. 😉

A set of doors put to good use!

Last October we had a customer come into the shop looking for a set of old doors. She got pretty excited when she found the Perfect Pair of doors. Her and her mother had a vision for the upcoming wedding and the new doors would help complete their plan, so they loaded them and off they went. Today a friend of theirs came into the shop and shared a picture from the wedding day. I love my job even more when what we sell can make a special day even more special!

A Fresh Idea Coming Very Soon…

At The Perfect Pair we strive to find ways to support our community by bringing in local businesses and vendors. We absolutely embrace the idea of “buy local”, if at all possible. It’s one of the best ways to support our local community and to help it grow and thrive. This summer and fall we will be hosting our first Farmer’s Market. This is being headed up by one of our dedicated friends and vendors Teressa. We are renting outdoor 10×10 spaces to local farmers/vendors. Every Thursday from June 13th until Thursday October 31st from 7:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. we will be hosting a Farmers Market. The space rental is $20.00 per day, per 10×10 space. Vendors must be insured and show proof of insurance at the time of booking their spaces. You are not required to book every week with us, but if you would like too, we would love that. If you have any questions or additional information you can contact Teressa at 217-637-4635
