Beyond the Red Wall

Beyond The Red Wall – Dreams Come True Part III

When Wanda envisioned her dream paint room/work room, she didn’t just want to keep it all to herself. She had something more in mind for that space.  She wanted to share.  She wanted to allow other people to enjoy the space she has available and to be creative.  A place where Elizabeth, Beki, and herself included, could teach classes to those in our local community to share their knowledge and creativity with others who are interested in learning and having fun.

I’ve said before, I look at so many of the pieces these ladies create or design and wonder, how did they do that?   Or I think “wow what talent”.  I am truly blown away by the creativity each of these ladies possesses.

The beauty of “Beyond The Red Wall” is these women are willing to share what they have learned with others and we can come together under one roof and behind one red wall to gather together and learn what each other has to share.

In June of 2013 we started planning classes on a more regular basis.  As each month has passed, our class schedule has seemed to really grow.  The ladies are coming at me with such fun and creative classes to add to our calendar.  Word is getting out that not only are we teaching classes at The Perfect Pair, but these classes are a lot of fun to take.  We hear comments from those who have taken classes about how much they learned in class.  I’ve had those who are doubtful or feel as if they are not “artistic” enough to take a class, but once they have taken it, they realize there is a creative side to them and they are thrilled they took the class. And the best part, they are excited to take more classes being offered.  Some even come out of class ready to sign up for another class before leaving.  How wonderful is that!

Beki VanMeter of Paint Junkies teaches the Van Gogh series of classes that are offered at the Perfect Pair, as well as our 3 different turntable classes.   If learning to repaint furniture is right up your creative alley, Van Gogh 101 & 102 teach fun techniques with the Van Gogh fossil (chalk) paint line.

Beyond The Red Wall…Dreams Come True (Part II)

Today we are going to share with you Part II of Beyond the Red Wall.  Join us as we explore some of the different projects created in this very space by Wanda, Megan, Beki, Donna, Teressa, Ann and othe 2013.

The ladies who create all these awesome projects have definitely kept the paint room busy!  The wait list for projects is just about 6 months out, but always well worth the wait. There definitely is a steady stream of projects going on. For me personally, I enjoy seeing what they will come up with next.  Especially when they take something I would consider a curbside piece for the trash collector, but then they see a whole new possibility such as this piece below.

This piece was a night stand and an end table, but repurposed into a small dresser stand or even a jewelry box.  This piece could be used to store small baby items like blankets, onsies, diapers, etc.  And what a perfect height or perhaps if you love jewelry it could definitely hold some gorgeous pieces you own.

Don’t you just love the after of this piece!  Who would have dreamed this piece up?!?! And the color scheme chosen for this beautiful.

Another thing I enjoy seeing from Beyond The Red Wall, are parents coming in to find wonderful furniture in the warehouse and having them refinished into something that looks a bit more modern for their babies and children’s rooms.  I have said this many times myself and have heard many times from others, furniture just isn’t made like it used to be.  That is so true.  So it is exciting to see pieces of furniture taken from the warehouse floor and given a new life.

This wardrobe was found out in our warehouse, but it was about to take on a new life of it’s own!

And here is the after!  This piece was ready and waiting for it’s new little one to make her arrival.

And this is a before and after of another bedroom set found out in the warehouse, except this time it was ready and waiting for a little “him” to make his arrival.  Look at all that storage space too…and how awesome is the redo on this piece!

Seeing pieces take on a life of their own and seeing the creativity in Wanda and the ladies who also refinish and repurpose pieces in the paint room is an added perk of working here.  I love walking into the showroom to see what pieces of come out of the paint room since my last day off.  I’ve oohed and aahed so many times this past year over some beautiful pieces that have hit our showroom floor.

Seeing pieces like this, makes me want to redo my own rooms in my house time and time again.  How about you?  Don’t you love the quote on top.  Gorgeous!

This kid’s chalkboard table was a donation Wanda created for a local charity event.

A Kid’s desk they can write on and wipe right off!  Cute! Yes, I think so!

A small side table turned into a jewelry stand.  Perfect.

2013 was a year of expanding, redoing, rebuilding, painting, and of course planning to get the paint room just the way Wanda dreamed it would be.  And with all that work in the paint room, she managed to crank out a lot of projects.  Now that the room is where she wants it to be, I cannot wait to see how much more gets accomplished on her always growing project list.  You can be sure that Beyond the Red Wall, there are a lot of wonderful projects in the works for 2014.  If you would like to see more photos of our “2013 Beyond The Red Wall Projects”, check us out on Facebook and you will find them HERE.  Stay tuned to see what this year holds.  Are you as excited as I am?  I definitely hope so!

Part III of our “Beyond The Red Wall…Dreams Come True” blog series will be up next week.  See what else has been going on Beyond The Red Wall over the past year.  I can tell you what’s been going on, has definitely been a lot of fun and it’s got a lot of people talking about The Perfect Pair!  You won’t want to miss it!

Beyond the Red Wall

Beyond The Red Wall…Dreams Come True! (Part I)

Whenever I go into a little store or shop I like, I don’t really ever put a lot of thought or any thought really, into what went into making that store a reality.  And I’m not talking about chain stores, I am talking about the quaint little shops you stumble upon. Those little treasures.  Sure, I think what a cute shop, what a neat store, wow that’s different how lovely!  But I often times do not think twice about what did it take to make this place or that place a reality.  How much work went into it?  How many hours of sleep were passed up for planning, dreaming, creating, praying, hoping, and relying on your faith and your friends.  Countless hours of sleep sacrificed as you lay in bed each night with the lights out, but your mind racing with a million other things.  How many conversations took place with your friends and your family, encouraging and inspiring you.

What happens when your dreams, your goals, your wants and all your hard work finally pays off for you? Your nights of no sleep and your days spent trying to juggle it all, you finally get the chance to stand back and say, “I did it.  I dreamed of this day and what’s even better, is it is far more than I even dreamed possible.”  And what’s even better than that?  Being able to say it was all worth it to reach this point. It was made possible because you never gave up, and on those days when you felt like throwing in the towel and saying this requires more than I am capable of, you were surrounded with friends who knew you were more than able to make your dreams come true.  So not only is this a dream come true for her, but it is a dream she built with the support, love, and encouragement with friends and family by her side.  For Wanda, those sleepless nights, those hours and hours of dreaming, planning, praying, and envisioning meant having this….

Beyond The Red Wall

Beyond The Red Wall.  What exactly is “Beyond The Red Wall”?  It’s Wanda’s workroom/paint room.  It’s a dream come true.  An idea that started in her basement in 2000, she was using a workbench and a sump pump with a hose for her clean up area.

Yes this is where the dream of having a workroom/paint room began to take shape.  Today of course, Wanda uses her old work bench area for storage and the basement, well it’s back to being just a basement now, but to Wanda it was where it all began.

Laundry Room

Eventually Wanda moved herself and her work/projects upstairs to her laundry room. But of course, in due time she would outgrow that space quickly as well.

In 2003, Wanda moved Designer Finishes into what is now known as the shop we all love from the moment we walk into the door, “The Perfect Pair Antiques & Salon”.  However, in 2003 the idea for the Perfect Pair was not even an idea just yet.  Instead, it was a rented space for Wanda’s Faux Finish business, Designer Finishes.  In 2005, the building came up for public auction and with a huge leap of faith and a strong trust in God, Wanda & Mike purchased the entire building.  They rented out the warehouse space for 5 years to Pershing Auto Parts, but eventually God’s plan for how that space should be used took Wanda in and down a different path. The previously rented space, is now the consignment area of The Perfect Pair.

Wanda next workroom/paint room space is was bigger than her laundry room, that’s for sure and this space now makes excellent space for Megan’s hair salon, which when you come in now to the shop, that is what you will find in Wanda’s old workroom an awesome hair salon.

Eventually Wanda knew she needed an even larger work space.  The table in the photo is quite large as tables go and it definitely didn’t leave for much room.  As her business has grown, so has her work space.  And this time Wanda, along with her family and close friends, were about to help bring her dream workroom/paint room to reality.

Workroom Transformation

Oh what a project and undertaking this would be.  Lifting the ceiling, building walls, new lighting, painting, painting, and more painting.  A big project, but an even bigger amount of faith.

Beyond The Red Wall

And finally the final touches of Donna with a can of red paint!

The Workroom

A little sneak peek of the workroom.  Look at all that space!  Truly a dream come true.

What does this space mean to Wanda, besides a large open work space?  It’s a place she can spread out, no more cramped rooms, a clean up space that isn’t a sump pump and a hose, pretty much no piece of furniture that is too big to tackle.  One of her favorite features of her room, the lighting.  As quoted by her, “it’s awesome”.  She even sold her work van to invest that money into the lighting in the workroom!  Now that is a definite move that proves how much she believes in having this space and just how much she really wanted it. This is also a space she has all her tools and supplies in one space, not to mention being organized as well.  But most importantly, it is a place she can share with those amazingly creative friends she has had for many years.  A place they can come together and share their creative talents with our local community.  Each one bringing something different to the table.

Stay tuned for Part II of Beyond The Red Wall…Dreams Come True, where we will show you just what’s been happening behind that wall.  You won’t want to miss it!

A special thank you to Mike, Megan, Garrett, Beki, Elizabeth,Teressa, Ann, Donna, Jackie, Heidi, Mary, Kim, and Mandi who played such an important role in making this long awaited dream a reality.

A Table Fit For A Little Princess…

Over the summer a little girl named Addison came into The Perfect Pair with her Mommy and Grandma.  They were on the hunt for a little table/desk that would fit Addison. So, Wanda showed them around the warehouse.  After browsing the through a lot of furniture, they found the “perfect” piece that would, fit Addison just perfectly.  Not too big and definitely not too small, it was just the right size for little Miss Addison.  Though the desk fit Addison perfectly, there was a slight problem with the desk.

Can you see the problem? It was brown and dull, and what most little girls wouldn’t consider all that pretty and well even kind of boring to a little girl who dreams in all colors pink.  For Wanda though that was no match.  Off to her paint room Wanda went, to grab up her paint samples.  Wanda sat down with Addison, letting her pick her two most favorite colors.  Wanda knew she could take this desk and give it a new look that Addison will love to sit at and create many projects, color for hours on end, or even read books at.

Wanda talked over her plans and vision for this table with Donna.  So Donna got to work on this piece.  The first color of pink I have to say already made a big improvement.  But they were not done with just one shade of pink and also not having some kind of design on the top to jazz it up even more.

Covering the top in a chevron pattern painters tape  was just what this table needed.  Did you know they even made cool patterned painters tape like this?!?!?  I didn’t until Wanda took on this project.  Then came the 2nd lighter shade of pink to create the chevron pattern across the top of the table.

Here you have the finished piece.  Isn’t it just perfect for a little girls bedroom?  I think Addison will have hours and hours of fun at her new desk.   I think Wanda and Donna definitely outdid themselves with this project.

Beyond the Red Wall

Under Construction!
